The One About The Rebate Cheque

Well, the rebate cheques have started to pop up in everyone's mailboxes, even mine. If you do not know what these rebate cheques are, pop over to here. It looks nothing like the cheques mentioned in SnowRice's blog entry - though those would have been cool and funny! :-D And fyi, I still have to add on another $800 to that pimping purchase. :-P

Anyhoo, the cheque was accompanied by a "thank you" note from Big Ralph. It states:

Dear Albertans: Enclosed is your Alberta 2005 Resource Rebate. This 400.00 per-person rebate is being provided by the Government of Alberta as a non-taxable, one-time bonus to all Albertans in recognition of their role in building this province. Funds for this rebate are from part of this year's provincial surplus, the rest of which will be saved or invested to build Alberta's future. For more information on the rebate, please visit www.gov.ab.ca.

Congratulations, and thank you for helping build this province.

From,
Premier Big Poppa*

*okay, so it actually just says Premier Ralph Klein. :-P I guess this gives a whole new meaning to buying votes? :-D Or maybe not cause I think Big Ralphie is stepping down next year (end of his term?) but it is good PR for his political party. ;-)

Before anyone yells "發了! 發了!" I am only able to cherish this cheque for a whole day before putting it in the bank - not to invest but to pay off my heafty purchase which will be billed to me next month. :-P Oh well, at least for a day, I was $400 richer. :-D

The One About Chinese New Year

This week is going to be hectic! Not only is it time to celebrate the Chinese New Year, but I have a couple of "mini" exams next week. I don't know what's "mini" about it as they're all worth quite a bit. :-P

Anyhoooo, it is CNY and for me, it started tonight. Had a pre CNY dinner with the family so that was nice - though the food could have been a weeee bit better but I guess I shouldn't be complaining since I didn't have to pay for dinner. :-D

Speaking for CNY, MSN or Sympatico (Canada) has created this cool website for sending out CNY greetings. You can even get MSN icons from there too. Just head on over to http://cn.sympatico.msn.ca/cny/default_en.htm. Please note that because it is sponsored or created by MSN, you do need to use Internet Explorer :-P to access the site properly. There's also a similar site from MSN China and MSN Taiwan.

What else to report? Well, I decided to count my chickens before the eggs are hatched, aka I spent my rebate cheque before I actually received it. I'll pimp out my purchase when I get my hands on it. ;-) Other than that, things have been a-okay. Just getting busier with classes. But will complain about that later cause tonight's all about CNY (which actually starts on Sunday, Jan. 30th). A Happy New Year to all my Chinese compadres and best wishes in 2006. Hope you all get plenty of "red packets" :-D

恭喜發財

The One About Karaoke!

Hahahahahaha! I was just looking around for a PC based game cause I don't wanna buy more accesories for the PS2 game and good God, look at what I found!!!

Damn! These people have balls!!! I browsed through some of the "featured performers" - some are pretty good and the others, well, did I mention that they have enough balls to put them up online? Hehehehehe! Too bad you have to pay to play. Oh well, that was fun. :-P

The One With A Change In Government

Well, I got some decent sleep and am now awake at the crack of dawn. Hahaha! Anyway, most of you may be aware that today is Election Day! I wish the damn polls would open already so that I can get it over with. Anyway, with all things being so serious, here's a lighter view on the election issue courtesy of Jon Stewart and The Daily Show. God, his shows are GEMMMMMSSSS!!

10:20 a.m. - I went to cast my vote. I was so chuffed about it that I even WALKED to the polling station. :-D Ok, it's only a 5-8 mins walk but still, people who know me knows that I donnnnnnnnnnnn't do walking. Hahahahaha! Anyway, the polling station seemed a bit slow but I guess that's cause most people are at work (I hope). I think things will pick up after 6?

The above was taken with my V300. Not too shabby, eh? :-D But the resolution still pales in comparison with the newer versions. Then again, isn't that the case with every thing - once we have the coolest technology at the moment, a few months later there will be something even bigger and better or in the case of mobile tech, smaller and better. :-D

10:30 p.m. - Well, I guess it wasn't a surprise as the Conservatives Party of Canada has won a minority government, ending the Libertal's 12 year regime. :-( Actually, there was a surprise in the outcome, former Liberal cabinet minister Anne McLellan didn't win her riding. I could have sworn that there would be at least one Liberal representative from our region. Oh well, I guess it's time for a change and a little shake up in Parliament. It is kinda scary to think of what plans the Conservatives have in mind re: "change". :-S If you want to read more into Election Canada 2006, check the CBC website at http://www.cbc.ca/canadavotes/

The One With Dakota Fanning, Stars, & the Letter X

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

The scene: Dakota Fanning being interview while on a press junket tour in Japan for War of the World. The clip is apparently from a show is called "Gakkou e Ikou!", or "Let's go to school" in english. The student looked so nervous that I thought he was gonna faint in the end. Hahahahaha!

So here I am, wide awake, trying to think of something to do before I head to my Saturday class. :-P I guess I couuuuuuuuuuuuld catch up on my readings and start doing some of my assignments? We'll see.

Found out that Montreal band Stars will be in town next month. I hope that I'll be able to catch them this time. Think the last time they came to town, I had a night class. :-P

And finally,

DON'T FORGET TO VOTE THIS MONDAY!!!!

The One With The Winning Combo

Okay, so I managed to stay up for 28+ hrs straight without yawning. I think I've found the winning combo that I can use for exam season:

- 1 XL Tim Hortons (Double Double)
- 1 XL homebrew of Nescafe Instant & Hot Chocolate Mix
- 1 250 mL of Sobe Arush (Sugar Free) Energy Drink
- 1/2 can (473 mL) of RockStar Energy Drink*

* I could only tolerate 1/2 a can because it tasted like crap - actually, it tasted more like Red Bull and at the moment, I'm not a Red Bull fan (unless vodka is added then maybe).

The winning combo was guzzled between the hours of 2am to 2 pm. :-D

So, I bet you're asking "Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy?????"

Well, I had to finish up an assignment that stumped me like a mother fucker! But hey, at least it's done and over with (well, for this week) and as a bonus, I discovered the aforementioned. I might tweak the combo a bit (i.e replace RockStar with more Sobe Arush or something) cause I really CANNOT STAND the taste. :-P

Okay, craziness aside - I'm on the verge to attaining something really cool in the next 24 hour. :-D Well, it's not freeeeeeeeeeeee but if I do get it, I'll make sure to post it. Hmm, maybe you can all take a stab in guessing what the hell I'm talking about. Hahahahahaha!

And before I forget, I got cool crap from A.J Kohn about another site for university textbooks. Head on down to http://www.alibris.com. Thanks for the heads up! :-D And I've found this one all by myself (to satisfy my bargain finding urges :-P): http://www.redflagdeals.com

The One With The Magnet

:-D Salutations & gratitude will be sent to The Globetrotter for his nice surprise (see above). Thanks buddy :-D So now I know it takes a good 18 days (not sure if the Xmas rush contributed to it) to send/receive stuff to/from Carouge. ;-D

Here's a rundown of what I did for the past few days:

  • I spent a whopping $160 on books this semester. Yes, 3 of them are BRAND NEW. Hehehehe! The most expensive was this stupid Labour Relations book that cost me $86. >_< I think I will try to see if I can buy that used. *crosses my fingers*

  • I learned to play Crib :-P

  • I learned that I have a higher tolerance for gore than most people (is that a good thing? :-S)

The One With The Biggest Load of Crap of '06 (so far)

Eli Roth's Hostel is the biggest pile of crap I've seen this year. Sure, it's only January 8th so I'm certain that I will be seeing more crap at the theatres. The promos that the production company did for the movie are CRAP - I want to meet all the lame ass people who "fainted" during the screening of the movie and ask them "What the fuck?!?!". If people want to see a gory movie (or horror) that has more of a plot then I suggest everyone go and find a copy of Ichi the Killer. Wait, maybe those people who fainted while watching Hostel shouldn't bother cause they might have a heart attack or something. :-P Speaking of Ichi - Takashi Miike (the director of Ichi) made a cameo in the movie. Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy Miikesan? :-P

Skip this movie - it's not worth it. If they wanted to sell this movie as a gorefest, they didn't succeed. People who seen this lame excuse for a "horror" movie should band together and sue for misrepresentation. :-P

The One With The Memoirs of a Geisha Parody

    Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!

The One With Me Trying To Waste 2 Hours

Okay, I didn't get the sleep that I wanted last night so here I am, stuck on campus, trying to waste 2 hours while running on just one hour of sleep. :-P Yes, ladies and gents, I have classes on Saturday (2 in fact; Sales Management and Exploring Creativity).

My Sales Management class starts at 9:00 am and should go until noon. However, due to just 5 (out of 10 people registered) showing up for class today; the class turned out to be just running through the syllabus and class was over for today. Normally, I would be elated that class ended early BUTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT since I still have a class in the afternoon, I was nottttttttttttttt pleased. :-P

So, after spending a good 30 mins or so browsing for cheap textbooks at abebooks.com (thanks to my prof's recommendation) - I managed to score a softcover text for just $40 compare to forking out $140 on a hardcover text. :-P

Now that leaves me with - see title of this entry. :-P I would have gone to get the rest of my textbooks but the stupid bookstore is closed on Saturday (well, this Saturday it is). :-P

Anyway, I started my first class of the semester on Thursday - Collective Labour Relations. I don't know if it's a good sign or not but the prof wasn't there for that class so again, so we were told to do some in-class assignment and then when that's done, another early class. :-P I really hope that they don't try to cram too much materials for the next class in order to make up for the week before.

11:00 a.m now! I am so fucking bored. Nothing to read, nothing to do, but just sit here in the computer lab, in my swivel chair, stare out the windows, and watch the itty bitty snowflake falling nevermind, it stopped. :-P

The One With The First Post of 2006

    Greetings and salutations! :-D

Well, it looks like I've survived the holidays and with my liver still functioning :-D. But I think that's because I was hit with the cold bug so since I was still on meds, I didn't drink as much. Oh well, there's always next year. :-D

I believe that at this time, I should be reflecting on the past year and start making resolutions for the new year. Well, I'm not! :-P I hate making resolutions cause I never keep them anyway. They're like reminders of things that one tries to do but then having it fail miserably. I rather just do what I want when I want and if I accomplish something, well then HOOOOORAY for me! :-D

Okay, if you really want NY resolutions, here are some (courtesy of aha! jokes :-P)

Are you sick of making the same resolutions year after year and yet you never keep them? Here are some resolutions that you can actually accomplish! Enjoy! :-)

    10. Read less.
    9. I want to gain weight. Put on at least 30 pounds.
    8. Stop exercising. Waste of time.
    7. Watch more TV. I've been missing some good stuff.
    6. Procrastinate more.
    5. Drink. Drink some more.
    4. Start being superstitious.
    3. Spend more time at work.
    2. Stop bringing lunch from home: I should eat out more.
    and last but not least...
    1. Take up a new habit: maybe smoking!

As for reflections, I think that 2005 has been pretty good to me (minus the job situation). I've become more determined and serious about my studies because, well, tuition is bloody expensive so I cannot be fucking around (not in the literal sense :-P) as much as I use to cause time and money is verrrrrrrrry limited. :-P

In terms of NY celebrations, didn't hit the clubs or anything cause not everyone was up for it and $35 to spend maybe 4 hrs @ a sweaty/stinky club which provides lame party favours and still having to pay for my own drinks is just not acceptable spending. :-P Instead, we all hung out at San's joint for a house party. Drinking, having tapas, singing and gaming. Yeah, it sounds nerdy/geeky but it was fun and we can drink as much as we could without being kicked out for being too intoxicated (though that didn't happen but it could and passing out on plush carpeting is better than hugging dirty toilets and passing out in a stinky club's washroom). FYI, the women's lavatories are pretty disgusting - you would think that women are cleaner and such but damn!, that is so a myth, especially at the clubs. :-P

Oh, a shoutout 2 the Jackster who's partying it up in Europe! Have I mentioned that I'm soooooooooooooooo jealous that you're conquering Europe. :-P Hahahahaha! I expect to see lots of pic posts of your druken escapades during the NY celebrations. Hehehe!

Anyway, here is my gift to you all for 2006 - good music! Hehehehe! Well, it's myyyyyy interpretation of good music. Remember when I was raving about the Fort Minor CD? Well, I'm still going to rave about it. Sure, sure - it's a major label (not indie, blah, blah, blah) but I think that this CD is AWESOME! :-D I can't stop listening to Track 5 (Where'd You Go? feat Holly Brook & Jonah Matranga)! I hope this will be the 2006's version of Eminem's Stan (if they ever release this as a single). :-D And I found a nice tune for Christmas too (I know it's a bit late but you can play it for next Christmas). It's by Mew (She Came Home For Christmas). It's quite pretty and different for the traditional Christmas songs. :-D And for a cool synth (not that crap heard in Malevolence :-P) feel, here's Ladytron's Seventeen. :-D

    IT'S A GIRL

PS - a big congratulation to Kelly and Sorina on the birth of their baby daughter Taylor! :-D She's sooooooo cute. Like I said in the e-mail, I can't wait to see you guys when you come up in February. :-D
